On September 2nd, we had the pleasure of hosting the annual JAGS/Westways golf event at the scenic Redlibbets Golf Course. Despite the typical British weather, which decided to bless us with rain, the day was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a shared purpose. Each drop of rain reminded us of the importance of giving back.
The spirit of the day was truly infectious as golfers from varied backgrounds came together, not just to play, but to support a cause that touches many lives, the Kent Cancer Trust.
The Excitement of the Day
Upon arriving at the course, excitement filled the air. Golfers practiced their swings, and laughter bounced all around. The rain held off at the start of the day but it certainly looked like it was on the cards, but it did not dampen our enthusiasm. Instead, it added quirky charm, reminding us that sometimes, the best memories come from unexpected situations.
One of the standout moments was the "Hit It to Win It" challenge and "One Putt Challenge". Everyone had the chance to win some local beverages, sweets and a brand new putter! Aiming for specific targets while the teams rallied behind them. There were some great putts from everyone, and a few misses that caused hearty laughter among the onlookers. For instance, one participant, a local roofer, narrowly missed the target, prompting a light-hearted chant of encouragement from his team.

Fundraising Activities
The day was not solely about golf; it was a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for the Kent Cancer Trust. Various activities filled the schedule, such as raffles and auctions, which were met with remarkable enthusiasm.
I was particularly moved by the generosity displayed. Many participants donated items for the auction. For example, one for Kent Cancer Trust's family members had donated a lovely painting created by them worth £400 and loads of local businesses donated vouchers for their work and time.
Golf and Generosity
Thanks to everyone's contributions, we collected an outstanding £2,663.73 for the Kent Cancer Trust. This funding will significantly impact local families dealing with cancer. Knowing that our efforts, despite the dreary weather, would help someone was incredibly rewarding.
As I roamed the course, I spotted familiar faces and encountered new friends, all united by a common mission. Conversations flowed as easily as the rain, highlighting that we were all there for more than just a game of golf.

A Day to Remember
Reflecting on that day, I learned it wasn’t solely about the golf or the money raised; it was about forging connections and making lasting memories. While the rain was persistent towards the end, it only added character to the event.
I noticed golfers supporting each other, sharing advice, and cheering one another on, regardless of their skill levels. This camaraderie underscored that golf is more than a game, it’s a community.
As the day wrapped up, I felt immense pride in helping create again such a meaningful event. The laughter, friendly competition, and shared aspirations ensured it was indeed a day to remember.
A Heartfelt Thanks
As I reflect on the JAGS/Westways golf event at Redlibbets Golf Course, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us, donated, and supported the Kent Cancer Trust. Your kindness and generosity make a profound difference. I eagerly anticipate seeing you all at our next charity golf day.
Let’s continue to swing for a cause and change lives, one round at a time!
